Through these years, he was active in the non-profit arena, as a member of the Bowdoin College Board of Overseers (1979-1991) serving as President in 1989-1991, and the Town of Dover (MA) Board of Selectmen of which he was Chairman in 1989 and 1994. He also was a Trustee of several other non-profits (Celebrity Series of Boston, The Peabody Foundation, & North Hill Retirement Community) where he served as Treasurer and Chairman of the Finance Committee.

Maine has always been an important part of Norm’s life and he and his wife Eleanor became full time residents of Bridgton in 2002, having owned property in the area since 1971. He has remained active serving 14 years on the Board of Bridgton Academy, holding the position of Treasurer and Chairman of the Finance Committee a number of those years. In 2023 he retired as Chairman of the Investment Committee of the Town of Bridgton after almost 10 years, 20 years as a member.
